For our client, we technically restructured the website:
- WooCommerce and dependent plugins removed:
WooCommerce was used exclusively for the uniform presentation of courses – a purchase process was not implemented. Nevertheless, numerous WooCommerce extensions were installed, which were used solely for designing individual product pages. - Static pages “Works” and “Sales Catalog” removed:
The works were maintained as static pages using Gutenberg blocks, which required manual administration. Since many works are offered for both exhibition and sale, both pages had to be filled with identical content – this duplication made maintenance cumbersome and a consistent presentation difficult to ensure.
New Implementation:
- Works/Sales Catalog as a Custom Post Type: The user creates works via a dedicated “Works” menu with a fixed input mask. The Works/Sales Catalog pages are automatically generated, and the content is displayed uniformly.
- Courses are also implemented as Custom Post Types. Several course types were defined: Series (multiple parallel series possible), Block Courses (over several consecutive days), On Request (without a fixed date – a date is only set once sufficient interest exists), and Flexible Dates (interested parties freely choose from a pool of available dates, with optional tiered pricing depending on the number of units booked).
- Gravity Forms as a booking form for courses and purchase inquiries for works. Gravity Forms also facilitates the purchase of vouchers (for the courses).
- Calendar Overview: All dates for the various courses are displayed monthly.
