Multilingual Homepage with WebsiteBaker

1 minute read

This post is from February 2012. The screenshots show the interface as it was then; today it looks slightly different in places.

This simple CMS is certainly well-suited for many smaller projects. It offers no frills, but features easy-to-understand menus in a clean design.

Two aspects are particularly interesting:

  1. Custom Templates: the template system is very simple; you can create your own pages in minutes, exactly as you envision them.
    • Step One: Create a directory with the template’s name
    • Step Two: Create the info.php, index.php, and template.css files (minimum requirements).

It is even better to create an /images directory to store images and icons for the template.
    • Step Three: In info.php, specify the areas to be used; first, metadata to correctly register the template in the database upon import. You must also indicate whether there are multiple navigation menus, multiple content areas, etc.
    • Step Four: In index.php, prepare an HTML view of the page and create the most important CMS-controlled areas using the PHP commands page_header(), show_menu(), page_content(), and page_footer().
P.S.: show_menu2() is a new variant for displaying navigation and should preferably be used instead of show_menu(), especially when implementing nested navigations.
    • Step Five: Zip the directory and import it as a template into WebsiteBaker. From then on, the template can be edited directly within the WebsiteBaker installation and does not need to be constantly re-zipped and re-uploaded.

Documentation on this topic is available here.

  2. Multilingual: simply create language containers, and you instantly have language separation – URL rewriting is configured automatically.

Of course, SaaS Web offers hosted WebsiteBaker packages.
